So I haven't really told you guys about Skyler's pressure sore yet.  I have mentioned them change his wound dressing but I havent really talked about it because it hasnt been one of the bigger issues.  It has become a bigger issue now and Im pretty angry about the whole thing today so I thought I would share.  About three weeks into being at the hospital, Skyler's skin on his bum by his tailbone started turning a darker color and started to get some breakdown.  Ever since then the spot has kept getting worse and hasnt been able to heal because of his counts being so low.  For the past five weeks or so they have had a wound nurse come in and change the dressing on it but it just hasnt gotten any better so she suggested getting plastic surgery involved.  They came down and looked at it yesterday and decided they need to scrape out the dead skin inside and see if that would make the wound heal a little faster.  If not, then they will have to take him to the OR and surgically clean it and close it.  So yesterday they scraped it out.  It was a little deeper than they thought and it was bleeding like crazy!  They had to hold pressure on it for what seemed like forever and then had to pump him full of this......

                                                                         (BLOOD)

and this........

(PLATELETS)

After two units of platelets and some blood be finally stopped bleeding.  Since then he has been in EXTREME pain and can only be on either of his sides in bed, which is not ideal for the healing of his lungs.  Im really angry about the whole thing today.  I havent been too concerned or angry in the past because this just seemed like the least of his problems, but now it is interfering with his progress in getting better and Im MAD!  This was caused from not being turned while in bed for three weeks in a row.  I know Im a CNA and I have done this stuff for a job and I know that people who lay in bed need to be turned, but I was just so upset and worried and this dang cancer that it didnt even cross my mind.  It should have crossed the mind of nurses and techs here though because that is part of their job.  Ugh!  So now Skyler is in so much pain and his lungs are sounding more junky from not being able to sit upright and get up in the chair.  Im sorry for complaining but Im just really irritated and I hate having to see him in so much pain when this could have been prevented.
Im going to show you a pic of it, and you will probably think Im crazy for showing a picture of part of my son's bum but I just want people to be aware of this kind of stuff.

Una petición pido mi DIOS
Que en tus benditas manos SEÑOR,

tu abrazo, y tu amor.

Crystal,
You don't know me, but I have been following your blog for a while. Skyler is such a fighter and I have loved how you have documented so much about his cancer journey. I have a question that I would like to ask you if you could email me at tngale@ymail.com. You can check out my blog if you want to get to know a little more about me. www.transplantmommy.blogspot.com
You are a great mother and I am so amazed at the strength that you have going through this alone. I admire much about you. I myself have had a sick kiddo so I know some similar things as to what you are going through. I hope that you will take the time to email me so that I can ask you a few questions.

Crystal, I am so sorry! Seriously, this is not fun and I'm really really sorry. It is so difficult having to clean and fix up these things.

My g-ma had a bad sore that just didn't heal and the hospital had these amazing bandages that were human skin. Maybe they could help? I don't know anything though and I just don't have words sometimes for how sorry I am for little Skyler.

Thanks for the chat and your comments on my blog! I really appreciate your understanding.

That looks so painful. You certainly have every right to be mad. I was wondering if maybe one of those boppy pillow things that people use for breast feeding would allow him to still lay the right way without putting pressure on the sore? Ugh, I just hope he feels better soon! My entire family keeps you guys in their thoughts and prayers.

I got goosebumps all over my body seeing that picture. Skyler must be in so much unnecessary pain. I would be FURIOUS! I am furious! I am so sorry that he is having to go through this and that you have to watch him suffer because of it. It truly breaks my heart.

When people break their tailbone they give them a special pillow to sit on, I wonder if that would help... just an idea.

I will be mad with you! :)
That is terrible! I am so sad that he has to go through pain because of this. I will be up at PCMC this week for a few nights. My daughter is having surgery. I would love to meet you, bring you some good food, magizines, whatever you need. Email me if you would like and let me know.

Crystal my friend Gina gave Chelsea some oils for you to try on Skyler's bed sore if you feel comfortable with it. I hope they can help, they are some of the best they have.

Hi there, I found your blog through zht- it breaks my heart in many ways, when my brother was in ICU- he got some bed sore issues- (That should have NEVER happened) he went weeks w/o being on "the bed" etc. I could go on and on, they had wound care etc on him and ended up with so many more issues, I am so sorry for your sweet little guy and best wishes..
